In this blog post, we will talk about Normal Skin. We will look at how to tell if you have normal skin, and what you should be doing to maintain a healthy normal skin, and then we will look at the different skincare ingredients best suited for normal skin, such as oils, AHAs, BHAs, and more.
What is normal skin?
Few people claim to have normal skin; the majority will have some issues that they are unhappy with. If you have few or no flaws, have no idea what sensitive means, don’t notice your pores in the mirror, and rarely think about your skin, you are most likely normal. Normal skin has good hydration, tone, and resilience as a result of a well-functioning epidermis and dermis that are well hydrated and adequately supported by adipose tissues.

The basal layer is highly active biologically, blood circulation is active, and metabolism is balanced. Normal skin has a healthy glow and color and appears soft, moist, plump, and dewy. There are no visible lines from dehydration or large pores associated with oiliness in the stratum corneum layer, which is translucent and has a fine texture. Children’s skin is the best example of normal skin, from birth until puberty.

The primary cause of normal skin deterioration is aging caused by the passage of time, sun exposure, and other external elements such as harsh climate, dehydration, and poor skin care. Inadequate water intake and a poor diet are also factors. Foods deficient in vitamins, enzymes, and amino acids does not provide the nourishment required for proper cellular reproduction and growth.
Due to a lack of skincare awareness, improper skincare, such as lack of cleansing, is quite common in children and teenagers. In these cases, however, keeping the skin clean is critical. Acne can be reduced by up to 25% by cleansing twice a day (am and pm) with an appropriate cleansing product. Harsh soaps and scrubs, as well as the environment, all contribute to the deterioration of normal skin. Without protection, exposure to the sun and elements dries, dehydrates, and prematurely ages the skin.
Normal skin requires proper cleansing in the morning and evening, as well as protection from oxidation caused by free radicals and the sun. It is critical to use antioxidant and sunscreen-containing moisturizers during the day and hydrating creams at night to prevent moisture loss and free radical damage.
It is critical that these moisturizers contain antioxidants such as vitamin E and C, idebenone, or co-enzyme Q’s. Exfoliation on a regular basis is also beneficial. Even for children, sun protection is critical. Children should not be allowed on the beach without proper sunscreen or in the snow without a good protective cream that includes UV and anti-oxidant protection. The key for normal skin is damage prevention and control.
How to Identify a Normal Skin Type?
- Smooth Texture
- Fine Pores
- No sensitivity
- No Blemishes
- Little to no Breakouts
How to Keep Your Normal Skin Healthy?
You don’t need to go all out on your skincare routine if you have normal skin. Your main priority, on the other hand, should be to keep your normal skin type healthy and hydrated. It is advised that you follow a basic skincare regimen appropriate for your skin type. Here are some easy steps to take:

- Keep Hydrated
Drinking too little water can cause your skin to dry out and become flaky and tight, leading to excess sebum (oil) production.
- Wear Sunscreen
To avoid clogging your pores, an oil-free sunscreen is recommended for Normal Skin Types.
- Moisturize
Moisturizers are essential for all skin types. They exist to keep the skin moist and to prevent excessive sebum production.
- Remove make-up before going to bed.
Sleeping with make-up on is one of the worst things you can do for your skin, as it can lead to clogged pores and breakouts, which no one wants.
- Before going to bed, wash your face.
Even if you don’t wear make-up, you should wash your face before going to bed. It is all to get rid of the dirt and bacteria accumulated throughout the day, as they can also clog your pores.
A Simple Skincare Routine for Normal Skin:
Cleanser
Keep this step simple by using a gentle sulfate free cleanser, with gentle lather or a milk cleanser. This is to clean your skin from the dirt and to keep it blemish free.

This face cleanser for women & men transforms from a gel to a rich foaming cleanser upon lathering. Made with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and vitamin D, it cleanses and hydrates without over drying the skin
Toner
Toners containing harsh ingredients, such as alcohol, should be avoided for this step. Toners with ingredients such as essence water or floral waters that have brightening and hydrating properties would be the best for your skin type.

Moisturizer
When moisturizing, remember to apply some to your neck as well, as it is technically part of your face. If you have normal skin, you will need a light moisturizer that will hydrate without clogging your pores.Consider hyaluronic acid, dimethicone, and panthenol (vitamin B5) as ingredients.

Sun Protection
Any good SPF 30 or higher is a good bet, and make sure to apply a generous amount but not so much that you look ghostly.

Extra Steps
Exfoliate
Exfoliating can still be beneficial for people with normal skin if they want to keep their normal skin normal. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells on the skin’s surface and brightens the skin. Because your skin does not produce a lot of oil, a physical or chemical exfoliator with a small molecular structure that can absorb deep into the skin for a brighter, smoother skin tone is recommended. Exfoliating at least twice a week is recommended.

Serum
Serums can be beneficial to your skin because of their rejuvenating and brightening properties. Serums containing ingredients such as vitamin C and algae extract are recommended for people with normal skin to revitalise the skin.

Facial Oils
Facial oils are not moisturizers, but they are a great addition to your skincare routine. Heavy oils should not be used on normal skin because they will not penetrate the skin and will clog your pores. Squalane, marula, and jojoba oil are the best oils to consider for normal skin because they all have amazing properties and benefits for your skin.
